What is the best Paid Genealogy site on the net

I was reading an article the other day about Ancestry.com. As you can imagine they are the biggest online provider of family research. Its not all good for them as half of their members take out membership and then cancel. Are you one of those departing members, i am, i seem to chop and change. I don't think that they have enough records to keep me interested as i am always on the lookout for something different.
Looking for our Ancestors has become very popular, especially with the Baby Boomers. As they age, more will become interested in this pastime. Ancestry will have to come up with a better service to keep them happy.
So what do you think? have you found a better provider or are you happy staying with Ancestry?

  1. I love Ancestry.com. I have been guilty in the past of taking advantage of a 2 week free trial & then cancalling at the end of the 2 weeks. I didn't have enough information about my family at that time to be able to connect very often with the information they had available. Over time, that has changed. I've made tremendous progress with my family tree, finding information both on & off the internet. In the meantime, the amount of information Ancestry.com has available has grown trememdously. My trees are posted publicly & I've made contact with several distant cousins. The fact that I'm retired now due to health problem means that I can spend many hours a day on-line if I choose. If you are young & healthy, with a spouse or significant other, young children, demanding career, I can see where you wouldn't have time to use all that Ancestry has to offer and would cancel at the end of your subscription period. I only wish they would provide more newspapers. Thst would be a huge help to us all

  2. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment. Ancestry.com seems to suit you very well. The problem for me with Ancestry is that they do not have the records for Ireland, what they do have on Ireland is very limited. Many of us also feel that they should have the new English census for 1911.

  3. I am also having trouble with Irish research. Thank you for your site and information.

  4. Thankyou for taking the time to leave a comment. Hope you can find what you are looking for.

  5. I can agree with your comments re ancestry.com. However, I am sure that is a good starting point for many newbie genealogist.

What about the best FREE genealogy websites? There are thousands of them out there and more springing up every day. My vote goes to Lurgan Ancestry - www.lurganancestry.com They lots of searchable databases and some interesting historical articles too.

  6. Thanks for your comment Simon. Lurgan Ancestry is a very good site. I had put a link to it from Your Ancestors Free.Com a few weeks ago when a friend recomended it. It would be a good idea to ask all readers what is their favourite free genealogy site

  7. Ancestry.com is good, but not everybody can afford their prices. www.FamilyHistoryFree.net provides free resources for people interested in learning about their ancestry. Thanks!
